It Was All Good Fun

You used to stay awake for the memories,
For that I can say the same
Though that beautiful garden you say have faded,
I still smell the roses of May.
Look out over the children in the park,
Coughing out the last smoke of winter,
In-between laughter at the dog running towards his love.
Sometimes even just trying is enough.

And while time will wither the long goodbye,
I'll stay awake for the memory.
No matter what pain our time could bring,
Our future swept it under the rug.
We liked the same things,
 Though it did not matter.
We both had suffered enough to be wealthy,
Though night was never quite dark enough.
And every moment together was stretched to infinity,
 Though infinity could never last
And we closed our eyes and saw our "hello"'s' again,
But I'm sure you don't remember them.

It's okay,
I'll stay awake for the memory anyway.
