Stay With Me
08/25 2021
EVE: All we do is a replication of how time flows,
How it changes at every move;
And the rock that always interrupts
What we thought a river could be.
The sun is our master, and time its king.
The sun glistens over the lake that seemingly stretches beyond perception itself. A gentle breeze blows gracefully across their untouched faces.
EVE: There is a return to be made
To the land of fire
And non-existing oxygen
Material, wood, what have you
Do you expect me to guarantee
That kind of reality?
ADAM: * stays silent *
EVE: And all of those expectations
That gather under all of those other expectations;
Does believing in the good of mankind
As you you continue on as before
Really grant you that kind of power?
ADAM: Kiss me once, before you go to sleep
And say all of those other promises
Contained in the words
You could never even suggest.
Yet say before the ears
Of youth, and all of you ---
EVE: And what about Lilith?
ADAM: And of life
* silence *
Is it really that different?
EVE: Watch the towers
Of old age grow weary
At your arrival
You get there on crutches,
In vain, half-blind in a thunderstorm
What hope do they have to deny you?
Yet what can one hope to find at a place
Without any people except yourself?
What does that say about...
ADAM: About what?
EVE: Never mind, it is beginning to rain.
The water's surface wobbles, and every wave becomes the same.
